プロジェクト概要
The Mai Ndombe REDD+ Project, located in western Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC), protects 248,956 hectares of forest from industrial logging, unsustainable fuel wood extraction, and slash and burn agriculture. Carbon validation is undertaken by the Verified Carbon Standard (VCS) and major socio-economic co-benefits ensured by the Climate, Community and Biodiversity (CCB) standard. Developed and managed through a joint venture by forest carbon leaders ERA-Ecosystem Restoration Associates Inc. and Wildlife Works Carbon LLC, this groundbreaking project is the first of its kind in the Congo basin and utilizes the novel methodology developed by Wildlife Works: VM0009 Methodology for Avoided Deforestation, approved by the VCS in October, 2012. The project is estimated to deliver over 175 MT CO2-e over 30 years.Protecting and restoring forests, especially those neighboring the equator, are some of the most effective and impactful ways to expand natural carbon sinks while simultaneously bolstering biodiversity, creating new habitats for native wildlife, and ensuring a working small water cycle. This project is both additional (it would not have happened without the carbon credit revenues that make the project financially attractive for investors) and permanent (carbon already captured, as well as carbon captured in the future, will remain sequestered thanks to the protection of this ecosystem).
