Swiss company Neustark develops, builds, and operates the entire negative-emission value chain in the concrete construction sector. This entails the supply of atmospheric or biogenic CO2, the implementation of CO2 mineralization technologies and the monitoring of generated negative emissions in order to produce carbon-removal credits. Tracking negative emissions is conducted in collaboration with external, trusted parties such as Gold Standard. Neustark’s first commercial value chain takes the CO2 originating from biogenic waste treatment sites and stores it in demolition concrete at partner construction recycling facilities. Concrete is an ideal precursor material for CO2 storage as it’s the most abundant global waste stream, with an industrial collection and recycling process already in place, and the CO2 converts to a chemically stable calcium carbonate - considered the most permanent way to store carbon. The recycler’s processes demolition waste to build streets or produce fresh recycled concrete.
