プロジェクト概要

The Wongphai Biochar A1 project converts bamboo waste into biochar in Prachinburi, Thailand. Traditionally, leftover bamboo from local marketplaces was burned in open air, causing pollution and environmental damage. The project now purchases these bamboo offcuts, eliminating harmful burning and enabling sustainable waste management. Through pyrolysis, the biomass transforms into biochar, creating durable carbon storage. Production uses 1600-liter Kon-Tiki kilns operating at 550–800°C. Over five years, the project expects to sequester approximately 32,000 tonnes of CO₂ equivalent.
A Train-the-Trainer program teaches women to operate biochar kilns and share these skills throughout their communities. Participants gain technical expertise to become producers and leaders while building economic independence. The project creates jobs for elderly residents and women while helping younger people find local work. Planboo's digital monitoring technology tracks production and verifies carbon removal.
Farmers receive biochar to improve soil health, reduce water use, and advance sustainable farming. The material balances soil pH, boosts water retention, and strengthens nutrient storage while reducing reliance on chemical fertilizers. Before distribution, crews blend biochar with chicken manure and compost tea, then apply it on farmland or share it with neighboring farms and universities. A small portion addresses soil erosion and foundation needs at the production site.
Wongphai Co., Ltd. manages the project, handling certification, compliance, internal controls, and training while partnering with community members for biomass collection and biochar production.
