The Advanced Disposal Services Maple Hill Landfill (ADSMHL) is a municipal sanitary waste landfill located in Macon County on Intrepid Road, approximately 5 miles west of the city of Macon, Missouri. The landfill began accepting waste at the site in 1976, which is situated within a property of approximately 430 acres, with 130 acres for waste disposal. The landfill gas (LFG) collection and control system was developed within four of the landfill phases and consists of twenty-six vertical extraction wells and three leachate extraction points. The initial gas system was voluntarily installed and came online in September 2002. The gas from the wellheads is routed via a main header line into the flare skid. The landfill gas is pulled by a blower and passes through knockout vessels to remove moisture prior to passing through the flow meter en route to the candlestick flare. In 2017, operational services for greenhouse gas (GHG) emission reduction credits created from the voluntary destruction of methane gas at ADSMHL began. All gas is destroyed by an open flare.
