プロジェクト概要

The purpose of this project (Longyuan Mulilo De Aar 2 North Wind Energy Facility) is to supply wind-generated electricity to the Republic of South Africa’s national grid. The project involves the installation of a new grid-connected wind farm at a site where no wind farm previously operated. Its installed capacity of 144 MW consists of 96 wind turbines and the associated infrastructure. Located in the Pixley Ka Seme District close to the town of De Aar in the Northern Cape Province (approximately 30 km northeast of the Longyuan Mulilo De Aar Maanhaarberg Wind Energy Facility), the wind farm was developed by Longyuan Mulilo De Aar 2 North (RF) (Pty) Ltd.In addition to expanding renewable wind energy production, this project has myriad co-benefits, from local job creation to the assurance of higher quality air for those living within the Northern Cape Province region, thanks to the prevention of environmental pollution from oil, gas, and coal-generated electricity.This project is both additional (it would not have happened without the carbon credit revenues that make the project financially attractive for investors) and permanent (the avoidance of the emissions that would have occurred from a non-renewable energy facility occur in perpetuity).
