Greenville County Landfill Gas Utilization Project

プロジェクト概要
The Greenville County Landfill Gas Utilization Project captures landfill gas at the Enoree Landfill in Greer, South Carolina and destroys methane through controlled combustion. The project collects gas from the closed municipal solid waste site and combusts it in a 1.6 MW electricity‑generating engine with an open flare as backup. This activity converts methane into carbon dioxide and water, lowering the landfill’s methane emissions while harnessing the gas for energy in the on‑site engine.
The Enoree Landfill opened in 1991 and closed in 2007. It contains approximately 2.6 million metric tons of waste in place and is not operated as a bioreactor. Gas is currently drawn from 68 wells across the site, with condensate removed and sent to the landfill’s condensate system before destruction. Prior to the project, the landfill collected and vented gas but did not destroy it. The project developer and operators confirm there is no regulatory mandate requiring landfill gas destruction at this site, and the project is implemented voluntarily.
The project developer is Anew Environmental LLC. Greenville County owns the landfill, and Greenville Gas Producers, LLC (GGP) owns the gas collection and control system. Ownership of emission reduction credits and project management transitioned from GGP to Element Markets Emissions, LLC in 2020; following Element’s merger with Bluesource in 2022, Anew Environmental LLC is the current project developer, account holder, and owner of the emission reduction credits generated by the project.
