Peru Unsold Goods Rescue
Waste Handling and Disposal
Industrial Processes
プロジェクト概要
CoreZero is unleashing the value of Zero Waste to tackle climate change. As a climate tech company, it develops solutions to transform waste into value and advance initiatives for minimizing and valorizing food waste. To accomplish these goals, CoreZero partnered with the Food Bank of Peru, a civic society organization based in Peru, that rescues surplus nutritious food and donates it to those in need, addressing food insecurity.
The project activity effectively avoids greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions, notably methane, by diverting food and unsold goods from being disposed of in landfills or incinerators. These items, discarded due to aesthetic flaws, short expiration dates, or overstock, are instead rescued and either commercialized or donated through a network of social organizations. This not only prevents unnecessary waste and GHG emissions, but also provides valuable food assistance to communities in need, reducing their alimentation gap and improving health.
The activity of rescuing unsold products is not mandatory by law or regulation, it’s not a common practice, and it requires significant investment in terms of human resources, material resources (such as storage facilities, equipment, offices, and logistics), and economic resources to sustain operational costs. The expected annual amount of reduced carbon emissions is 13,000 tonnes of CO₂e.
